Hello, and welcome to the blog. My name is Jeannette. I started this blog back in 2015 when my daughter was three and then I took a pause because between being a reporter, a grad student at the time, and a single mom, it was a lot to juggle. Now, with a little more time on my hands, a better sense of self, and more life experience, there’s a lot more I would love to share with you. I hope that through these true stories you’ll be encouraged to live your own truth and find hope.
I’m originally from L.A. According to my family, I was a painfully shy kid who barely spoke English and hid behind all of her curly, thick hair. My Salvadoran mom never knew what to do with it, so she watered me down like a plant and hoped for the best. What I remember most about myself as a kid is getting so immersed in my creativity for hours outside of our one-bedroom apartment. I was like the stoop kid in Hey Arnold. A domestic violence and childhood trauma survivor, I like to think that I made my way through life writing fiction, poetry, rap songs, drawing, painting, and long-distance running with my dog, Rocky, who crossed the rainbow bridge in 2021.
Since then, I’ve written for news, radio, nonprofit and multinational corporations, gone on a very intentional self-betterment journey and I’ve raised a diva of a daughter, too. Also, I now live in hot and humid Houston – where the weather is so unpredictable.
The name of this site, “Mommy Finger, Baby Finger” grew out of the popular Finger Family song on YouTube and my own little family. Nothing has inspired me more than being a single mother. This is our journey!
